King Tygath takes over the school of magic with the help of Jasper, who is then made the new Archmagus of the school.

Meanwhile, Ged and a few of the people he encounters during his travels are trying to stop the Nameless Ones from appearing. During the story, Ged is mistaken for a criminal, thrown in a maze-like prison, and escapes. Despite all of this, Ged still finds a way to banish the Nameless Ones.
